Collection: Black Dog BBQ

Black Dog BBQ is a New Zealand barbecue outfit, started in 2017 as a competition team and named after Jackson the Rottweiler. They've competed across NZ, cater around the Greater Wellington region, run a taco trailer and teach American-style BBQ classes. Their rubs are blended and packed locally in New Zealand.

We stock Black Dog's Lamb & Veg Rub. It's a savoury all-rounder built for lamb, the meat Kiwis and Aussies both know best, and it works just as well on roast veg, mushrooms and potatoes. One shaker covers the meat and the sides.

Use it on our signature smoked lamb rack or lamb backstrap, then browse more in lamb rubs. Click & collect in Brunswick or free shipping over $149.

What the Lamb & Veg Rub is for

  • Lamb racks and cutlets: Season well and cook hot, or smoke a rack low then sear to finish.
  • Lamb shoulder and ribs: Rub the night before and cook low and slow until the fat renders. See our lamb ribs recipe.
  • Roast veg: Toss potatoes, pumpkin, mushrooms or cauliflower in oil and the rub, then roast in the BBQ alongside the meat.
  • Backstrap: Quick, lean and tender. Season and sear hot, rest, then slice thin.

How to use it

Pat the meat dry, add a light coat of oil, and shake the rub on evenly. Thicker cuts can sit seasoned in the fridge for a few hours. For veg, mix the rub into the oil first so it coats everything evenly.

Pair it up

Lamb loves acid and fresh herbs. Serve with something from pickles & sides, and use a probe from thermometers so your lamb comes off right where you want it. Aim for about 55 to 58C for pink racks and backstrap, and rest it for a few minutes before slicing.
