Collection: B&B Charcoal

B&B Charcoal is a Texas charcoal maker run by the Kainer family since 1961. Two generations have built the business, and they still make their charcoal the same way they did back then: all natural, from hardwood.

We carry two B&B staples. The Oak Lump Charcoal 9kg is a mild-flavoured hardwood lump that suits almost any meat. The Oak Charcoal Briquettes 4kg are B&B's competition briquettes, made with real oak and no chemical additives or fillers, and known for a long, even burn. Note the briquettes are made in Mexico.

Add flavour with smoking wood, light up with our fuel and fire starters, and try them on a smoked brisket. Free shipping over $149, or click & collect in Brunswick.

Lump or briquettes?

  • Oak Lump Charcoal 9kg: Natural hardwood lump with a mild oak flavour. Lights quickly and burns hot, so it's a favourite in kamados and for grilling. Good with almost any meat.
  • Oak Charcoal Briquettes 4kg: B&B's competition oak briquettes. They burn long and even, which makes them easy to manage in kettles, bullet smokers and offset baskets for low and slow. Made with real oak wood and no chemical additives or fillers.

Which cooker, which charcoal

  • Kamado: Lump. It produces less ash, which matters on long cooks in a ceramic cooker. See our kamado BBQs.
  • Kettle with an offset plate: Briquettes. A row of briquettes lit at one end gives a slow, steady burn for hours.
  • Hot and fast grilling: Either works. Lump gets hotter quicker.

Adding smoke flavour

Oak is mild, so it pairs with most woods. Add a few chunks of smoking wood on the coals: hickory or post oak for beef, apple or cherry for pork and chicken. Light your charcoal with a chimney or natural firelighters rather than lighter fluid for a clean taste.
