Which BBQ or smoker should I buy?

Start with how you like to cook, not the brand. Most people fall into one of four camps, and each one points to a different cooker.

You want set-and-forget smoking

Go a pellet grill. You set the temperature and the controller feeds hardwood pellets to hold it, so overnight briskets and weeknight roasts are easy. See our pellet grills.

You want to grill, smoke and bake on one cooker

Go a kamado. The thick ceramic body holds heat for hours on a little lump charcoal and gets hot enough for pizza and searing. See our kamado BBQs.

You want the full stick-burner experience

Go an offset smoker. You manage a real wood fire, and the reward is proper Texas-style bark and smoke. See our offset smokers.

You want quick and easy every night

Go a gas BBQ. It heats fast, the controls are simple and a good hood still lets you roast. See our gas BBQs.

Charcoal, gas, pellet or wood?

Charcoal gives the most flavour per dollar and covers kettles, kamados, drums and hibachis. Pellets give wood flavour with push-button control. Gas is the fastest and cleanest. Wood (offsets and parrillas) gives the most flavour and asks the most of you.

Size it right

Think about your usual cook, not the biggest party of the year. A 57cm kettle, Classic Joe or mid-size pellet grill feeds most families. Go bigger if you regularly cook full packer briskets, several racks of ribs or for a crowd.

FAQs

What is the easiest smoker for a beginner?

A pellet grill is the easiest: you set the temperature and it manages the fire. A drum smoker like the Pit Barrel Cooker is the easiest charcoal option.

Can I see the BBQs before I buy?

Yes. Our showroom at 3-7 Syme Street, Brunswick has BBQs and smokers on the floor, and the Que Crew can talk you through them.

Do you deliver BBQs?

Yes, we deliver Australia-wide. BBQs and smokers are bulky items, so a bulky delivery charge applies. You can also click and collect from Brunswick.

Do you run BBQ classes?

Yes. We run BBQ cooking classes at our Brunswick cooking school, which is a great way to try a style of cooking before you buy.
