Collection: Pit Barrel

Pit Barrel Cooker Co. is a veteran-founded, family business. The Glanville family started it in 2010, with co-founder Noah Glanville, a former US Navy corpsman, now president and CEO. They patented the hanging vertical cooker that made them famous: meat hangs from hooks over a basket of charcoal, the barrel circulates heat all round, and the drippings hit the coals for extra flavour.

We stock the 22.5" PBX, Pit Barrel's largest cooker, which Pit Barrel says fits 16 to 20 racks of ribs, four pork butts or four full packer briskets. The PBX Starter Bundle adds the ash pan, a full-length cover and a chimney starter. We also carry the PBX Cover, PBX Ash Pan and the Junior Ash Pan.

Light it, hang it, put the lid on. Start with our Pit Barrel chook or smoked pork ribs, pick a rub from pork rubs, and keep charcoal on hand. Delivery Australia-wide or click & collect in Brunswick.

Pit Barrel Cooker: hang it, lid it, walk away

The Pit Barrel Cooker is a porcelain-coated steel drum smoker. You hang meat on hooks from rods across the top of the barrel, and Pit Barrel's 360° All-Round Heat Dynamics cooks it evenly, with the drippings hitting the coals for extra flavour. Light it, hang it, put the lid on. That's about it.

FAQs

How does a Pit Barrel Cooker work?

Meat hangs from hooks over a basket of charcoal inside the drum. The barrel shape circulates heat all round, and drippings vaporise on the coals for extra flavour.

Which size Pit Barrel should I buy?

The 14" Junior for small cooks and travel, the 18.5" Classic for the backyard, and the 22.5" PBX for catering and big crowds.

How much fits in the PBX?

Pit Barrel quotes 16–20 racks of ribs, 4 pork butts, 4 full packer briskets, 12–16 chicken halves, 60+ wings or 4 turkeys.

Do Classic accessories fit the PBX?

Pit Barrel says the hanging accessories are interchangeable between the 18.5" Classic and the PBX, except the hinged grate, ash pan and cover.

Can you grill on a Pit Barrel?

Yes. Use the grill grate over the coals for burgers, steaks and snags, or hang for smoking.

Do I need to watch the temperature?

Not much. Follow Pit Barrel's lighting process for grilling or smoking, put the lid on and let it run. Pit Barrel notes smaller cooks in the PBX can run hotter, as there's less food absorbing heat.

Do you deliver Pit Barrel Cookers?

Yes. Drum cookers are bulky items, so a bulky delivery charge applies. Or pick up from our Brunswick store.
