Pommery’s s deliciously grainy Moutarde de Meaux has a slight nutty flavour and it is used by many great French chefs as an ingredient for sauces, roasts and salad dressings.
French mustards became popular in the 18th century as they made it possible to improve the taste of foods that were no longer fresh. The secret recipe for the highly prized Moutarde De Meaux, was handed down to the House of Pommery, around this time with its emphasis on natural ingredients. The French restaurant critic, Brillat-Savarin remarked, that if it wasn’t Meaux, it wasn’t mustard.
